Welcome to Taft Charter High School (TCHS) and the New Taft Gifted and Highly Gifted STEAM Magnet.  I am extremely excited to welcome everyone to the 2016-2017 school year, and a special welcome to all of our new students and the class of 2020.

A new school year brings new opportunities, experiences, and gives us all a fresh new start with endless possibilities.  I look forward to a year of innovation around teaching and learning that will enrich the experiences of all our students.

Our vision at TCHS, which serves one of the most diverse student populations in LAUSD, is that we prepare students to meet the challenges of today’s global community through academic achievement, individual growth, and social responsibility.

I truly believe that there is a place for everyone at TCHS. The entire staff and I are committed to support our mission of providing all students with the opportunity to develop their individual passions and talents through innovative programs and instruction that challenge them academically and creatively. This year we will focus on increasing access and use of technology in the classroom by allocating time and resources throughout the year for this purpose. We will also continue to explore new ways to increase communication, continuity and coherence in all of our programs, while providing opportunities for input from all stakeholders on a regular basis.

A new addition to our campus this school year includes the new Gifted and Highly Gifted STEAM Magnet, which will take an interdisciplinary approach to exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.  We are building a lab that will be dedicated to STEAM.

Also, inspired by the magnet addition, but available to all TCHS students will be the creation of a robotics club which will compete in robotics competitions in the 2016-17 school year.  This year will also see the rebirth of the school’s legendary Academic Decathlon team.

I look forward to meeting all of you and supporting you on the exciting journey of high school.  Please take advantage of all that Taft has to offer, see you August 16, 2016.
