College Application Guidelines
So you’re applying to college…remember to follow these simple guidelines!
 
 

COMMUNITY COLLEGE
 
  • Begin applying as early as January of your senior year (dates vary by school).
  • Application is simple – no transcript or tests needed.
  • No application essay required.
 

CAL STATE UNIVERSITY
  • Apply and submit Oct. 1st – Nov. 30th.
 
  • Straightforward application – need to list classes taken and grades received.
  • No application essay is required.
 

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
   
  • Submit Nov. 1st –Nov. 30th (applications available Aug. 1st).
 
  • Straightforward application – need to list classes taken and grades received.
  • SAT Subject tests recommended for some campuses and majors.
  • Application has a personal statement and essay.
 

PRIVATE & OUT-OF-STATE UNIVERSITIES
 
  • Deadlines vary (most are due by mid Jan.)
 
  • Comprehensive application – need to list classes taken and grades received activities and awards.
  • Official transcripts and letters of recommendation are required.
  • SAT Reasoning or ACT with Writing and SAT Subject Tests required (deadlines vary by campus).
  • CSS Financial PROFILE required.
  • Application has a personal statement and essay.
  • Some applications have several essays.
 
 
Application workshops available in the College Office.
Fee waivers for application costs available to students who qualify.
 

FEE WAIVER INFORMATION
In order to get a fee waiver for college applications, YOU MUST BE APPROVED for the free or reduced lunch program. You must complete a lunch application EACH year in order to be on the list. If you are not, pick up an application NOW in the Textbook Room. If you are not on the lunch list, you will pay $60+ for each college application. No exceptions!!
