Placement Criteria and Application Procedure

As there are two distinct programs within the School for Advanced Studies, students will be placed into one of two programs based on the following criteria from 6th through 8th grade records from middle school:  
 
Individual Honors / AP Capstone Program (IH/AP)
 
  • Grade of A in all honors-level academic courses                                                        
  • An occasional grade of a B in other elective courses
  • Standards Exceeded on SBAC in Math and English                                       
  • Verification of a score of 99.5 - 99.9% on an intellectual test administered by LAUSD GATE Psychological Services  (Does not solely determine IHP placement)    
 
Traditional Honors Program (THP)
 
  • Grade of A or B in all honors-level academic courses                                                
  • An occasional grade of a B in elective courses
  • Standards Met on SBAC in Math and English    
   
The SAS program application for 2024-2025 school year will become available online throughout March and April of 2024. For LAUSD students, we will verify the official student records directly when enrollment information has been transferred to Taft around mid-May. For non-LAUSD students, the application will be pending until we receive the official transcript with standardized test scores electrically to [email protected]
 
All non-resident students must have been accepted to Taft CHS first through the Affiliated Charter Application before the SAS application is considered.
