Health Education: Required for LAUSD Graduation

Justification for a health class:  Today’s student may be experiencing stresses academically, emotionally, socially, and environmentally unknown to previous generations.  In this class, we will study units that should help you/your child cope with the above stresses more successfully.  The following units will be studied in health education class:  personal and mental health, nutrition, drugs and human sexuality. 

Objectives for our class:

1. Creating strategies for coping with pressures.
2. Learning through participation in class discussions and activities.
3. Encouraging responsibility by expecting students to be on time and prepared.
4. Initiating positive changes in health behaviors based on current information.
5. Meeting many of the California State Health Education Standards (http://www.aidspreventionlausd.net)
