Taft Dance Team: This Team has a legacy of excellence, our students are committed and dedicated to growing, improving and succeeding in and out of the dance room.  The Dance team is a Spirit team, the team brings pride to the students, staff and community of Taft. The dance team is a year long commitment, during the Fall the team focuses on Football games, pep-rallys, school spirit, and dance concert. The Spring semester focus is competitions, dance concert, and the dance team audition.  Our goal on the dance team is to teach Life through dance, for students to develop body awareness and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy. Students will choreograph their own Dances. Dancing alone or with others, the body will be used as an instrument to communicate emotions  and to express individuality through movement. We are committed to academic and dance excellence. 
 
 
Summer Dance Camp 2023
July 24 - August 11
9am - 3pm
In the dance room
If you missed the auditions you can participate in two weeks of dance camp
we will audition participants who complete 2 weeks of camp August 4th 
complete and athletic packet and registration form
*when athletic packet is complete turn in to athletic director box (school is open for summer school) 
*non team members bring registration form completed to first day of camp
 
 
Dance Classes -Students can simply enroll in Dance to earn their Physical Education credit. 
 
Beginning dance: 
This class will introduce the basic styles, techniques, vocabulary and history of dance: Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary dance.  Students will develop body awareness, spacial awareness, and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy.  Students will choreograph their own dances.  Dancing alone or with others, the body will be used as an instrument to communicate emotions and to express unique individuality through movement.  
 

Intermediate Dance:  (for 10th Graders who have already taken Beginning Dance)
This class will build on the basic styles, techniques, vocabulary and history of dance: Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary dance.  Students will develop body awareness, spacial awareness, and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy.  Students will choreograph their own dances.  Dancing alone or with others, the body will be used as an instrument to communicate emotions and to express unique individuality through movement.
 
 
The Dance Program
Our program's Objective is Teaching student’s various styles  of dance such as Jazz, modern, hip-hop, ballet, lyrical and many more. We use dance to teach our students how to express their ideas, feelings, or concern, we want teach life through dance. Some of are goals are that students gain an a appreciation for dance as an art form, Develop physical and energetic coordination, Develop musical and rhythmic awareness, Feel and experience movement, Create choreography, And Experiment with personal boundaries.
