ASL Clubs & Orgs at Taft

Taft Charter High School has a Chapter of the National American Sign Language Honor Society. From the ASLHS Website: "The ASLHS recognizes the outstanding achievements of students studying ASL, and we encourage the use of the language along with lifelong learning and language enjoyment. ASL teachers at any level are eligible to establish ASLHS chapters on campus, whether they teach at a high school, community college, college, university, or Deaf schools. Additionally, all ASL students can participate in our programs."

At Taft, the ASLHS is made up of Advanced ASL students in Honors ASL 3 and Honors ASL 4. They participate in community service around our campus. Each year they must complete Deaf community service hours that benefits our DHH population and hours tutoring beginner/intermediate ASL 1 & 2 students. If students complete the required hours, they earn ASLHS Honor cords and/or medals to celebrate their achievements in the study of ASL and their involvement in the community as Deaf Community Allies.
